The unfortunate reality is the barrier that stood in between me and of all these dreams. We were in and out of the foster care system, and I was working two “under the table” jobs to provide for my family. At age 14 my siblings and I were separated between family members to avoid being placed back into the system. That same year I would begin the process of pursuing legal emancipation. At 16 years old, the state of Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles would grant this request. One year later the Recession would hit, and I would become homeless due to loss of work.

I didn’t end up double majoring in music and pre-law. Instead, I would pursue journalism, then intern at a public relations agency and convince the president to hire a 20-year-old who was still in school to become an Account Executive. A couple of years later, I would take temporary guardianship of my younger sister who is six years younger than I.
